In 1975, Graham Russell & Russell Hitchcock met on May 12th the first day of rehearsals for ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ in Sydney, Australia. They became instant friends with their common love for the Beatles and of course singing.
After the shows performance at 10:30, they would play pizza parlors, coffee bars and night clubs with just one guitar and two voices. They quickly gained a reputation for great harmonies and for original songs that Graham was writing constantly. They made a demo on a cassette, of two songs, ‘Love and Other Bruises’ and ‘If You Knew Me’ and took it to every record company in Sydney. Everyone turned it down, but one - CBS Records who admired their unique style. They made a single in one afternoon and it shot to number one on the National charts. Air Supply was born!

Air Supply is officially my favourite singing group. Anyone who knows me well enough should know this as well. Call me old-fashioned, or out-of-date, or sentimental, or whatever, but Air Supply is one band i am madly obssesed with. And i am here today to explain why.

1. The Soothe from their music

Songs from Air Supply are all extremely soothing. Goodbye, Every Woman In The World, All Out of Love are among them, to name a few. All of Air Supply's songs are stringed to near perfection, or if its safe to say, perfection. Well, kudos to Graham Russell who composed most of their songs and of course, these songs were brought to prominence by Russel Hitchcock who sang nearly all the songs with occasional duets with Graham here and there. Their songs have this somehow, strange power, of giving you the feeeling of joy, of what i would call 'safe ecstasy'. Smooth, addictive, powerful, yet clean and positive music is what i call Air Supply. Generally categorised as slow pop rock, Air Supply's music have greatly influenced the development of rock music in the seventies, if i'm not mistaken (which i have to admit i have a strong dislike towards). Yet, they have managed to keep that brilliant piece of sentiment in each song with a frequent supple blend of modern(fast-paced) music style. The type of soothe that simply drags me into subconsciousness as my mind basks in the glory of their music.

2. The Angel's voice is from Russell.

Russell Hitchcock has a kind of rare uniqueness in his voice. It isn't too deep and also not high-pitched. He has the ability to raise and lower his voice to all kinds of tones in perfect melody. Pure beauty presents itself in his voice. Russell can simply transform any song into a heaven's creation. Angelic. He has truly showed this in another single, 'Someone Who Believes In You' and it is as though the type of song you wanna play in the check-in lobby of heaven, if there was one.

3. Listening is Loving Its Meaning.

Lyrics. Air Supply's songs have lyrics that touches you at the bottom of the heart. They are meaningful, and are mostly love songs. There is this problem in modern music when the singers' voices seems to be muffled at times by the banging of background music. In Air Supply, their lyrics are almost spelled out with its pure meaning left to listeners to enjoy. It is as though they are telling love stories in their singing, and what more can you ask when the lyrics are carried across with an Angel's voice and stringed-to-perfection melody?

4. Music is all about contrast.

The contrast in Graham's and Russell's voice is just about the best thing in the world of music you can think of. Graham has a deep and smooth voice while Russell's is medium-pitched smooth. What is so great about this is when they take turns to sing in the same song, when you get the contrast, and what happens after that is magic. Brilliance. Its even better than a guy and girl sort of duet. Its something like they are taking turns to 'bombard' your ears with such smoothness and melody in perfect balance. Something like the Yin and Yang thingy. Nature. They show that music is all about contrast and balance.

All in all, i would say that Air Supply is probably a band that God sent down from heaven to play Angel-quality music for His children. Enjoy it. I hope anyone reading this can do me a favour ny listening to at least one of Air Supply's song. I would recommend 'All Out of Love'. That song topped the list in Light and Easy's 105.7FM 500 best songs ever. 'All Out of Love' was voted number one by Malaysians on that radio channel. Air Supply is simply the best. Legendary.
